In particular, I was going to write about what might happen if an object this large -- bigger than a space shuttle and many times more dense and heavy -- would actually hit our planet.
Then something like that -- on a much smaller scale -- actually occured.
You've probably seen the many spectacular photos and videos of the meteor event over central Russia this morning. If not, you will find none better than these on the Russian government-owned RT website. (Don't worry, it's in English.) This is just incredible, and the sort of thing that only happens about once every 100 years. Incidentally, the last similar incident was also in Russia.
At any rate, I spent the last ten hours at work dealing with this and other messes, so I leave it to you to learn more about this fascinating and, unfortunately, destructive catastrophe.
(Incredibly, NASA astronomers insist these two events are totally unrelated.)
